Meet Our Teachers


Jill Strawhacker is the director and lead teacher at Adventures Preschool. Jill joined the Adventures Preschool staff in June 2008. She is responsible for enrolling children, curriculum planning, supporting parents and children in the classroom, and maintaining Iowa DHS child care licensing standards. Jill graduated from Iowa State University in 1994 with a degree in Teaching PreKindergarten and Kindergarten Children and in 1995 with a degree in Early Childhood Education and a minor in Family Services. Jill has experience teaching preschool children in child care centers and Head Start classrooms, serving as the assistant director of a large non-profit child care center and as the director of a large for-profit child care center.Both of Jill’s sons attended Adventures Preschool and she was a parent volunteer, board member, and substitute teacher during that time. Jill lives in Ames with her husband Chris and two sons; Jonah and Cameron. When not attending Jonah’s and Cameron’s football, basketball, or soccer games, she enjoys reading and scrapbooking.

Our assistant teacher is Kelly Lewis.  She has her BA in Elementary Education from UNI and started at Adventures in the Fall of 2018.  Kelly has 9 years of experience working as a teacher’s assistant at the preschool level.  Kelly and her family recently moved to Ames from her hometown of Indianola.  She and her husband, Doug, have two daughters.  Clair will be an 8th grader at Gilbert Middle School and participates in gymnastics.  Julia will be a 6th grader and loves to twirl baton and dance.  In her free time, Kelly enjoys running and reading.  She’s excited to be here at Adventures Preschool.
